June 26th-29th, 2013This will mark our third annual ICSA summer camp and there will be some unique features on this one.
-First, this will be our first 4-day intensive, rather than the usual 5 days. We recognize that beyond the obvious costs of travel and tuition, time off work represents another huge cost for participants, so in an effort to make things even more affordable, we are compressing it down to 4 days.
-With this compression will come a higher level of intensity. Our goal this year is to give a strong pressure test on key topics and to provide every participant with an unforgettable and skill changing experience.
-This will be the first time Kevin Secours will be teaching it entirely without guest instructors. In the past, our goal was to introduce participants to a wider world view on the RMA. This year, our goal is to simplify the ICSA basics, enrich our instructors and students and strengthen the organization as a whole.
Here is the framework for this year's work:
Day 1-Striking:
We will begin with the foundations of striking, giving primary focus to create a modified system of street boxing that you can pressure test sportively and in simulation. Particular emphasis will be placed on:
-Distance and range
-Power generation
-Functional integration of the figure-8
-Forging a personal striking system that works for you today
Day 2-Clinch Domination
While views differ drastically on the role of the clinch in the Systema world, the CS approach is deeply committed to the clinch as a necessary bridge between distance and close range work. Day two will focus on:
-the biomechanics of clinching
-the role of the clinch as a neurological reset in intensive pressure settings
-new ways to weaponize the clinch and a spectrum of brutal tactics that can be trained and simulated safely and measurably
Day 3-Weapons:
The goal of day three is hyper-acceleration through weapon training. Weapon training can run a massive gamut from the dangerously delusional to the most viciously efficient. Day three will focus on using weapon defense training as a hyper accelerant for combative learning. Emphasis will be placed on:
-Consistency across the spectrum of knife, stick and gun defense
-Immediate pressure to distill excess movement
-Improving your innate reflexes to a sharp, potent cache of optimal responses.
Day 4-Combat Psychology:
The last day will bring it all together with a study of the biology of combat. Skills will be put into situational contexts and emphasis will be placed on:
-Early detection and identification of threats
-Defusing danger
-Pre-emptive measures
-How to create context driven, pressurized training environments safely in your own future training
Too often, we allow the fear of intense training to diminish our self-worth, hamper our expectations and ultimately restrict the achievement of our fullest potential. Everyone has a safe path to growth through pressure testing. The goal of this camp will be to bring people safely to their personal limits, to awaken new sensitivies, to purge bad habits and limiting beliefs or habits and to give them a clear direction for their continued work and training. Just get here and I guarantee you that we will find that path together and that no one will be left behind.
Training days will run from 10:00am -3:30pm every day with a 30 minute lunch break.
The goal of this, as with our previous events, is to provide unparalleled personalized attention, therefore the group size will be limited to ensure the highest level of direct attention, evaluation and growth. The training will be held at The Montreal Systema Academy, the head quarters of the ICSA nestled in the heart of downtown Montreal. This fully matted and professional training environment, that is completely equipped to meet all of your personal safety and training needs.
Training times are specifically designed to provide students with plenty of free time to explore the city. Montreal is a globally renown tourist destination. This year, the camp is being held at the pinnacle of festival season, in some of the greatest weather you can imagine, with sunshine and heat, world class dining, and a city bustling with culture, nightlife, and old world charm.
Regular evening classes at the school every night for those who are interested in getting in even more training.
