uctor status in Taiji. These cover many aspects of vital point striking, tuite, torite, and traditional methods of kobujutsu. After being turned on to the historical aspects of the Okinawan styles by the research of Patrick McCarthy, he found he no longer could continue on with the way the arts were being taught. In seeking out fruther instruction he found the teachings and methods of Erle Montaigue, and began to delve into the Chinese roots of Kempo/Te. These included grappling, throwing, striking, etc. In his research to find a common theme among all folk style martial disciples, he happened across a video put out by Scott Sonnon on R.O.S.S. This in turn led him to Vasiliev and Ryabko version of Systema. Rick has attended many seminars over the years from the top instructors in various methods of self-defense, including Russian Systema. He believes that the current way that Kevin Secours is creating a pedagogical method of imparting Combat Systema fits better with how students need to learn a martial method. He also believes that the way Kevin is teaching and practiticing Combat Systema, is probably much closer to how the Okinawan training 150+ years ago looked.
